IN CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Jackson "Jack" Darby
Canon: Transformers Prime
OU/AU/OC: OU
Canon Point: Post-End of Season 3
History: TFWiki Jack Darby
Personality:
"I've been raised to be responsible. To my schoolwork, to my mom, my job."

Jack Darby is the responsible teenager many mothers wish to have as a child. Initially, when Jack receives his introduction to the Autobots, the danger that comes with fighting the Decepticons is enough to convince him to withdraw after aiding the Autobots to the end of that particular mission. Although Jack was forced into the fray of the fight at the Nemesis, he saw to it that both Rafael and Miko escaped harm multiple times. This life-threatening experience convinced Jack that he should not be involved with the Cybertronian battles. Miko attempted to persuade him to return, but it was only through the personal bond he had begun to form with Arcee that he reconsidered and decided to aid the Autobots in an ongoing capacity. His responsibility to the Autobots became his top priority, but all the while, he did his best to maintain his schoolwork and his job alike. In time this resulted in Jack stretching himself a bit too thin to the point of dozing off in art history class repeatedly and missing a few shifts at work. His sense of responsibility, while at first focused on following instructions from authority figures (his mother, the Autobots, etc), Jack begins to waver from those instructions as in some cases, he judges the situation differently. The first instance of this was with Arcee when Arachnid arrived on Earth. Arcee told him to stay after taking him to a safe location, but Jack returned due to the fear he saw in his partner to aid her. By the event of Unicron’s awakening, Jack outright defies his single parent, something that took a great deal of courage considering the close bond he shares with his mother, June Darby. Further time with the Autobots leads to Jack becoming more of a leader, and when he sees an opening in the final show down to aid them, he seizes it and directs Miko and Rafael in the task with confidence.

His sense of responsibility is not maintained through duty, as for Jack, the teenager is focused usually on others rather than himself. In his interactions with others, Jack tends to adjust himself to reflect those around him, raising his energy when interacting with the rather hyper Miko, or softening while interacting with the more timid computer wiz Rafael. This shows not only an understanding of others, but a comprehension that is not obtained by mere interest. He truly wishes to help for the sake of assisting others, and even when that places him in harm’s way, he does not allow himself to back down. When the world is threatened by Unicron’s gradual awakening, Jack is quick to realize that his own life is inconsequential with the possible losses that might accumulate if he does not provide assistance. Again, he deems his own life as insignificant when he is held as a hostage at the Omega Lock on Cybertron for the sake of the Autobots potentially rebuilding their home. This is the trait that truly makes Jack at home with the Autobots.

Of course, his sense of responsibility can also be turned against him as well. He often finds himself chasing after Miko into dangerous situations, and at one point, even ‘pulls a Miko’ tagging along with Smokescreen in efforts to assist in the retrieval of the Iacon relics. It was Smokescreen pointing out that Ratchet did not want him going alone that drew Jack into this trip, but he certainly did not abandon his tactile senses even then, trying to keep Smokescreen out of danger.

In a frightening situation, Jack feels fear or even terror as others do, but he does not lose his ability to think and does not allow himself to panic. Early on, Jack was introduced to the Decepticon Arachnid when she decided to hunt him as part of her sport with her arrival to Earth. With limited options, Jack worked logically to evade her as much as he could, and when the opportunity to fight back finally presented itself, he took it by using leaking fuel from her ship to blow up the vessel and give Arachnid a few burns. Even when trapped in the ‘shadow zone’, he manages to keep his cool enough to think things through despite his inability to understand the complex science behind it as Rafael does.

Jack Darby is still a teenage human male, and as such, he is distracted by attraction as well as the occasional mischief. The desire to impress a particular classmate had encouraged him into fibbing and making agreements he, at the time, had no way to confirm. During his time with the Autobots, Jack did move beyond this attachment to his classmate, learning the hard way that abuse of power comes with consequences. He has not, however, grown beyond the desire to have fun and took advantage of time with Smokescreen to enjoy pranking a bully and his own boss once they had completed their assigned responsibilities for those days.

Strengths:
-Intelligent: Although not scientifically minded, Jack has a sharp mind that connects pieces and clues together rapidly as well as a tactical knack that comes in handy. Jack demonstrates a good ability to learn as seen in the episode “Rock Bottom” near the end of the first season when Jack is able to activate and operate a Cybertronian mining drill; something had not had prior experience behind.
-Brave: He’s not the type to back down from danger, and while he won’t stay in the line of fire out of common sense, he’ll do what needs to be done.

Weaknesses:
-Despite his tactile sense, Jack isn’t experienced in fighting himself. He relies on other maneuvers to handle opponents. He’ll leave the throw downs to Miko in the Apex Armor.
-Jack puts the wellbeing of others in front of his own, even to the point of being willing to give his life.

Possessions: None

Pony/Animal Type: Griffon

Jack may appear to be a normal human, but has heroic qualities that help him stand out from the rest. A griffon is not a standard citizen of Equestria, but it is not rare and seems like the appropriate balance between regular and out of the ordinary.
Cutie Mark: N/A
Pony Picture: A rough sketch

SAMPLES
First Person:
[Awkward as teenagers tend to be, the griffon certainly is as he makes the broadcast public. He starts with a smile at the least and a small shrug of his shoulders.]

Uhm, hey.

So, here’s the thing. I’ve been here for a while, and I’m starting to get used to the way things are here, but I still haven’t quite figured out flying. And it’s not that I haven’t tried on my own, but plowing face first into branches and snow repeatedly isn’t exactly a teaching method I respond to.

Back home, I don’t have wings, and flying is left to the professionals…and anything born with wings. Still, being here, I don’t want to pass up the opportunity to spread these wings, and not just to use as a blanket.

Long story short, I’d really appreciate any guidance or tips anyone-er, anypony, can give me.

Third Person:

Try as he might, sleep is an elusive state during his first night in this new universe. Rather than disturb his Autobot friends with what would soon become constant shifting in an effort to comfort his mind rather than his body, Jack decides to slip out into the fresh air in hopes of clearing his thoughts. Though not easy to manage with his new talons, he makes it out without waking them.

His blue gaze settles on the moon above briefly, thoughts drifting away from the local setting to the world from which he had come. His mother must be worried about him by now. He may be a consultant for Unit E with the military back home, but he still checks in on his cellphone with her. It had been bad enough after he had needed to go into hiding with his partner, Arcee, right after the Autobot base had been destroyed. This time though, he could be stuck away for a much lengthier time with no chance to even send a text message to tell her that he’s still alive.

Alive, but something entirely different. He still isn’t sure what to make of his new body. Even the feeling of the wind moving through his feathers is rather different from the way it used to feel on his skin and through his hair. At least he isn’t cold with the winter weather.

If nothing else, perhaps a walk will help his thoughts settle. He certainly won’t stray far, but the practice in navigating the darkness in his new body might help to tire him given how much effort it still takes just to walk without dripping over his own limbs.
